Dr. Susan Peters is a leading expert in workplace health, well-being, and organizational interventions, with over 20 years of practice and research experience in occupational health and employee well-being. As the Associate Director of the Center for Work, Health, and Well-being and a Research Scientist at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Dr. Peters focuses on developing evidence-based strategies that help organizations enhance worker well-being and mental health while improving business outcomes such as retention, productivity, and safety.
With a PhD in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, postdoctoral training in Environmental Health and Social and Behavioral Sciences, and background training as an Occupational Therapist, Dr. Peters brings a systems-level real-world approach to tackling today’s workforce challenges. Her research examines how workplace policies, leadership practices, and working conditions impact employee well-being. Her work aligns closely with the Total Worker Health® (TWH) framework, emphasizing integrated strategies that protect and promote worker health and well-being while driving organizational success.
Dr. Peters leads the Thriving Workers, Thriving Workplaces initiative, a research program that identifies actionable workplace policies and organizational strategies that foster healthier, more resilient workforces. Dr. Peters has collaborated with businesses in high-risk sectors such as construction, transportation, healthcare, and food service on designing workplace interventions that reduce absenteeism, enhance job satisfaction, and create safer, more productive work environments. She developed the Thriving from Work framework and the Thriving from Work Questionnaire, a validated tool used globally to measure employee well-being and organizational effectiveness. With a focus on translating research into practice, Dr. Peters collaborates with employers, policymakers, and industry leaders to develop, implement, and evaluate scalable workplace solutions that benefit both employees and organizational performance.
